WordPress.org is one of the most famous self hosted blogging platforms. To start a WordPress blog, you require 2 things - a domain and a web hosting account.
In the earlier articles of our "How To Start A Blog" series, we had discussed about registering a domain name and also about 3 of the best web hosting providers for a WordPress blog.
In this tutorial, we will take Hostgator as an example, and install a WordPress blog with a hostgator account.
Hostgator allows you to install WordPress by three methods:
- Manual
- Fantastico
- Quick Install
Out of these, Fantastico is the easiest method to install WordPress.
Login to your Hostgator web panel. Under services/software, click on Fantastico.
From the left sidebar, select WordPress under the 'Blogs' category. Then select 'New Installation'.
Now select the domain you want to use with your WordPress blog. You can choose either to install WordPress on root directory eg- www.bloggingpanorama.com or to install WordPress on sub directory eg- www.bloggingpanorama.com/blog
Check every detail and then press 'Install WordPress'.
On the next screen, you will be shown your database details. Note it down somewhere and click 'Finish Installation'.
Thats it!
Now you would get the confirmation about the newly installed WordPress blog.
